What happens when/if you die in Fallout 76?

Here’s what happens when you die in Fallout 76:

  • You will drop all of your junk items on the ground.
  • You will be teleported to a nearby Vault 76 terminal.
  • You will have to pay a Death Tax to reclaim your dropped items.
  • You will lose any unsaved progress.

The Death Tax is a percentage of your total caps that you will have to pay to reclaim your dropped items. The percentage of your caps that you lose depends on your Death Timer. The Death Timer starts when you die and counts down for 60 seconds. If you reclaim your dropped items before the Death Timer runs out, you will only lose 10% of your caps. However, if the Death Timer runs out, you will lose 50% of your caps.

There are a few ways to avoid the Death Tax. One way is to have a friend or team mate pick up your dropped items before the Death Timer runs out. Another way is to use the Caps Collector perk card. This perk card will reduce the amount of caps that you lose when you die.
